The 2026 F1 campaign is only three rounds old, but two early races – Bahrain and Saudi Arabia – have already been scrapped from the schedule. Max Verstappen has used the unexpected break to get behind the wheel of a GT3 car for extra testing, while Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll is set to race at Paul Ricard on what would have been Bahrain’s weekend.
Now there are suggestions that Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson could also make use of the downtime by making a one-off appearance in Australian Supercars this April. Liam Lawson keen on Supercars appearance but rules out April opportunity Despite Thomas Maher posting on X , that Lawson would be ‘quite excited’ about the prospect of racing in Supercars, it doesn’t look like something that will happen this April. Instead, he may consider an appearance further down the line if the chance comes up again.
Maher also pointed out that the rumours about Lawson joining Supercars during F1’s early break actually started as an April Fool’s joke. The story suggested he could step in if one of the regular drivers agreed to sit out a round, which is how talk of a possible appearance began. The New Zealand Herald also reported that a spokesperson dismissed talk of Lawson making a Supercars cameo.
They said: “It was an idea that came up to have a crack at making something happen. Definitely an idea, but it had not gone much further than that. ” Lawson has had a decent start to the 2026 F1 season, and with the early break providing time for other opportunities, drivers are considering new options.
The 24-year-old is currently 10th in the standings with 10 points, two behind Red Bull’s Verstappen. Even though his form has been solid so far, Lawson is looking to make gains in qualifying. He’s expected to work on this area using Racing Bulls’ simulator during the break.
