Trout National opens with Tiger Woods course design in New Jersey
Golf star Tiger Woods designed the new course for MLB star and golf nut Mike Trout on the site of a former sand mine.
Trout National โ the exclusive new golf club with a course designed by Tiger Woods and built for 11-time Major League Baseball All-Star Mike Trout and his development partner, John Ruga โ officially opens April 15 in Millville, New Jersey. The layout started preview play last fall. The course plays across 280 acres and can be stretched past 7,500 yards with a par of 72, featuring wide fairways that offer multiple routes toward the greens.
Water is in play on six holes, and the bold greens are surrounded by short-cut grass, rewarding creativity while presenting plenty of short-game options. The layout was designed with match play in mind, asking plenty of risk-reward questions of players. The private club also features a short course named The Bullpen and a lit putting course called Under the Lights.
The whole project was overseen by Troutโs brother, Tyler. Woodsโ TGR Design began work on Trout National โ The Reserve in 2023 on a site that formerly included a silica sand mine 45 minutes south of Philadelphia. Sandy waste areas left over from the quarry feature prominently on the new layout that also stretches into former farmland.
In announcing the plans for the course then, Woods said, โโMike and John found a site with a lot of character to make some outstanding golf holes. The sandy and diverse terrain has so many great natural features that have given us a lot of options on how to create a world-class golf course. โ Trout, a three-time American League MVP for the Los Angeles Angels, grew up in Millville, just down the road from the land that became Trout National.
