A’s kick off season two in West Sacramento with hope and tradition

Baseball is back in the Sacramento region, bringing with it the energy, traditions and expectations of a new season as the Athletics opened their second year in West Sacramento on Friday. Fans packed the ballpark for Opening Day, embracing what many say is a hard-to-match atmosphere. The A’s are again playing in their temporary home Sutter Health Park, a smaller ballpark that fans say has quickly become part of the experience.

“I just love coming to this place,” said Rick Justice, a fan. “It’s kind of like spring training, you are very close to the field,” Robert Padilla said. That close-up setting is helping make first-time experiences even more memorable for some fans.

“I am very excited,” Camden Miller said. “This is like my first time going to a home opener,” Ezra said. “I really like the A’s and I saw A’s are one of my best teams.

” For others, Opening Day is rooted in tradition. “We are excited just glad to be back and just to hear and root our team on for sure,” Jessica Moran said. “It's been a family tradition forever and it's just been our team,” said Jafid Moran.

Some fans traveled hours to be there like the Miller family from Redding. “I think just excited to be here,” Duane Miller said. “I am just exciting to see some good baseball,” Jack Savage said.
