Texas women's basketball loses to UCLA in Final Four, once again falls short of national championship game
AP Despite a promising season, the Texas Longhorns women's basketball team has once again fallen just short of a national championship. The Longhorns fell short in their attempt to reach the national championship game after losing to UCLA 51-44 at Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix Friday night. It is the second consecutive season in which the Longhorns advanced to the Final Four but failed to reach the national championship.
The game was a defensive struggle, with both teams converting under 50% of their shot attempts, but the Longhorns struggled to muster any sort of offensive consistency. Kyla Oldacre led the Longhorns with 11 points, and was the only Longhorn to score in double figures. The Bruins, meanwhile, were led in scoring by Lauren Betts who had 16 points, and had four starters score in double figures.
UCLA will now move on to face South Carolina in the national championship game on Sunday, after the Gamecocks upset prohibitive favorite Connecticut in the earlier game on Friday.
