The London boys soccer team fell to Brookshire Royal in a shootout in the Class 4A Division II state semifinals.

SEGUIN — The London boys soccer team had momentum and a two-man advantage going into overtime against Brookshire Royal in the Class 4A Division II state semifinals at Matador Stadium. Both Eskary Rosas and Angel Diaz had been sent off after their second yellow cards of the match, allowing an improbable comeback with late goals from London’s Singha Weeranitikun and Colton Wiseman — on an 80 th minute free kick — to send the game into overtime knotted at 3. But Royal played back and conservative opting to play for penalties, thwarting London’s two-man advantage.

In the shootout, Royal goalkeeper Guillermo Lopez stonewalled two shots as the Falcons escaped with a 4-3 shootout win to end the deepest UIL playoff push of any Coastal Bend boys soccer team. The Pirates showed grit in battling back down 3-1 after a 12-minute stretch of Royal momentum was started by a miraculous speedy counter ended with the Falcons’ go-ahead goal. Royal added with a penalty kick in the 67 th to make it 3-1.

“That showed the hearts of these kids,” coach Lane Deal said. “I’m sure they thought it was over (pointing to the opposite sideline) and there might have even been people in our stands that thought it was over. “They showed that they learned to fight this year.

They showed they cared more than anything in this world and they weren’t letting this season end without a fight. That comeback … I’m so proud of them for it. ” The Royal burst came after numerous chances were just off early in the second half as the Pirates dominated possession in an even game, it was the Falcons that found two goals to pull in front.
