Texas softball made a statement in Game 1 of the best-of-three series by pummeling Alabama and its touted pitching staff in a 9-1 win . Junior ace Teagan Kavan recovered from a rough outing in Sunday's loss by earning her 10th complete-game win of the season and improving to 14-1. She allowed five hits and one run and fanned nine Tide batters without issuing a walk.
The lineup for the No. 1 Longhorns (32-2, 9-1 SEC) proved just as dominant. The Tide (33-3, 7-3) entered the game with the fewest home runs allowed by any SEC team with 14 through its first 35 games, but the Longhorns hammered four total homers off starter Jocelyn Briski and reliever Kaitlyn Pallozzi.
