He has played a major role on the South Side for quite some time. Guillen would get his MLB start with the White Sox in 1985 and played for them all the way through the 1997 season. After, he would go on to play with the Baltimore Orioles , Atlanta Braves , and Tampa Bay Rays .

Guillen was a three-time All-Star, AL Rookie of the Year, and a Gold Glove Award winner in 1990. After his playing career, he would transition to coaching, helping the now Miami Marlins win a World Series in 2003. He would become manager of the White Sox, and it did not take long for him to find success. During the 2005 season, Guillen helped the club reach the World Series, defeating the Houston Astros for their first WS ring since 1917. He would stick with the White Sox until after the 2011 season, and then managed the Marlins.
