Konnor Griffin lived up to the hype. MLB ‘s No. 1 prospect debuted for the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 3 and hit an RBI double in his first plate appearance against the Baltimore Orioles.
With his family in attendance at PNC Park, Griffin scored on a Jared Triolo single in the same inning, giving the Pirates a 2-0 lead to electrify the crowd. Griffin’s promotion was announced by the Pirates on April 2, a day off for the team. The 19-year-old shortstop batted seventh in Don Kelly’s lineup in his debut.
The Orioles gave the ball to right-hander Kyle Bradish, a tough matchup for any hitter. For moment at least, Griffin is batting 1. 000.
