the Swamp, starting in 2027 will not affect the venue's total capacity.
Florida Gators athletic director Scott Stricklin has revealed that Ben Hill Griffin Stadium's multi-million-dollar renovation plans , scheduled to begin in April 2027, will not affect the venue's current 88,548-seat capacity. Previously, Swamp247 reported on documents showing that the venue would remain relatively stable during the initial construction phases in 2027 and 2028, but then temporarily decrease to 80,895 in 2029 before rebounding to 83,096 — or 84,339, including standing-room-only sections — upon completion in 2030. "Our goal is to be able to modernize the Swamp while maintaining what makes the stadium unique," he said.
Stricklin did not provide much else in the way of details, other than offering that formal renderings, seating concepts, total project budget and a projected construction timeline will be released later this year. He also noted that Florida's recent stretch of 18-straight home sellouts is indicative of the hunger the Gator Nation has for the gridiron game. The university sent a survey to fans this week asking "what matters most to Gator fans?
" in an effort to shape "the future vision of The Swamp. " The query included items such as: satisfaction with stadium appearance; getting in and out of the venue; concourse and crowd circulation; seat location, comfort and price; availability of shaded and climate-controlled seating; number of restrooms and restroom access; parking; WiFi; quality and number of concessions; gameday atmosphere; tailgating.
