Tyler Hansbrough questions if UNC is as heralded as it once was
Former UNC basketball great Tyler Hansbrough has the hard truth about the open job at the university.
Friday hasn't been a great day for the North Carolina Tar Heels' head coaching search. During Friday's press conferences at the Final Four, Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd announced he had signed a new extension and was removing him from the North Carolina search. Lloyd was reportedly at the top of the list, along with Michigan's Dusty May as the two are set to square off on Saturday night in Indianapolis.
Now, North Carolina's search is taking a turn and they are looking at other candidates. Another thing it tells us is that college basketball continues to be a different game than it once was. NIL, the transfer portal, and more have changed things.
For a UNC legend, that signals that the Tar Heel brand and program may not be as heralded as it once was. "Right now, there might just be a bigger gap. North Carolina might not be as heralded as we once thought," Tyler Hansbrough said on The Field of 68 .
Those are tough words to hear but it's true. North Carolina has certainly had some struggles over the past few years and had to move on from Hubert Davis after just five seasons. Lloyd isn't the only coach to remove themselves from the coversation either as Iowa State's T.
