Illinois offensive lineman Josh Gesky to take pre-draft visit with Packers
Illinois offensive lineman Josh Gesky was not invited to the NFL scouting combine but has made the most of his offseason preparing for the NFL draft.
Per NFL rules, the Green Bay Packers are allowed to host up to 30 draft-eligible players (excluding “local” prospects, such as those in the UW system or nearby regional schools such as Northern Illinois) for in-person visits. The Journal Sentinel is tracking the visits and supplying profiles based on information from sources and published reports . GREEN BAY – Illinois guard Josh Gesky didn’t get invited to the NFL scouting combine , but it hasn’t hurt his draft prospects.
Gesky made the most of his pro day in Champaign and has drawn a lot of interest from NFL teams, including the Green Bay Packers , who will host him on a top-30 draft visit this month. The 6-foot-5, 329-pound Gesky took his combine snub and ran with it. In preparation for his pro day, he lost 20 pounds and showed he had been working intensely to highlight his athleticism.
Mostly a left guard at Illinois, Gesky posted a 40-yard dash time of 4. 94 to 5. 0 seconds that would have ranked in the top 10 among offensive linemen and a vertical leap of 33 inches that would have ranked fifth.
His arms are 33 inches long and his hands measure 10 inches. His athleticism opened a lot of eyes and Gesky is garnering a lot of invitations to visit before the draft. In Green Bay’s offense, he would be a guard with the potential to play center given his strength and mobility.
