Dusty May explains why he won't address UNC job rumors

There's one very prominent college basketball job currently open, with North Carolina having fired Hubert Davis from the post. And naturally, a lot of eyes have turned to Michigan basketball head coach Dusty May, given what he did both at FAU, as well as turning around the Wolverines. On Thursday, both Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd and May were asked about the Tar Heels' opening, and Lloyd was more emphatic about his denial, which raised some national eyebrows.

Lloyd was extended by the Wildcats on Friday, closing that loop. Thus, later in the day, May was asked why he didn't outright refute his interest in the North Carolina opening. And with that, he shared why he's not seeking to squash the rumors in a way that should make any nervous Michigan fans relax a bit.

"After last year, I decided I'll never respond to any job speculation," May said. "I had already agreed to terms with Michigan, was 100 percent done, and I made the comment that I was flattered about a certain job opening because of my background, and that was misconstrued, so I just decided I'm never going to comment on any job that I don't have. I think it's well documented how happy I am at Michigan.

"Obviously, my private life, my personal life, my family, their happiness is very important. Yeah, I love it at Michigan, but you'll never hear me comment on any other job unless Michigan lets me go, and then I'll comment on every job. " May and Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel have reportedly been working on a contract extension since before the UNC job became vacant.
