Punjab beat CSK to continue chaser dominance at IPL
[Reuters] Punjab Kings beat Chennai Super Kings by five wickets to continue the trend of chasing teams winning in this year's Indian Premier League. Kings knocked off a target of 210 with eight balls to spare, meaning six of the seven matches at this year's tournament have been won by the chasers. Five-time champions CSK, who finished bottom of the standings last year and have now lost two from two this season, made a quick start as 18-year-old Ayush Mhatre hit 73 from 43 balls.
Punjab fought back through the middle but CSK reached 209-5 with Sarfaraz Khan adding 32 and Shivam Dube 45. But Punjab openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh put on 61 in just 4. 2 overs at the start of the chase.
They fell for 39 and 43 respectively but captain Shreyas Iyer struck 50 from 29 to push the visitors on as CSK struggled to break through. With 12 needed from the final two overs, Shashank Singh and Marcus Stoinis secured Punjab's second win, one that puts them top of the early table, in the penultimate over.
