3 free agents who still make sense for Packers
A veteran free agent for three of the Packers' need positions: cornerback, edge rusher and offensive line.
With the busiest part of free agency behind us, most of the focus around the league has turned to the 2026 NFL Draft. However, roster building is a 365-day-a-year job, and if Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst wants to add someone to help fortify the roster, plenty of options remain available. Today, we are looking at three free agents who still make sense for the Packers.
CB Trevon Diggs While speaking with the media at the NFL Annual League Meeting earlier this week, Gutekunst was asked about the possibility of bringing back the veteran cornerback. "I wouldn't shut the door on anything,” he said. “As we work through this draft and get to the other side of the draft, we're going to continue to look at ways to improve the football team.
" Green Bay released Diggs after the 2025 season to avoid his $14. 5 million base salary in 2026. Diggs played 33 defensive snaps in the regular season finale against the Minnesota Vikings and logged just one snap against the Chicago Bears in the NFC Wild Card round.
A two-time Pro Bowler and former first-team All-Pro, Diggs’ best years are likely behind him. However, he’d be a low-cost addition that could provide some much-needed depth to the Packers’ cornerback room. DE Cameron Jordan Edge rusher is another spot that could use some reinforcements, and the veteran pass rusher and future Hall of Famer was recently linked to Green Bay by NFL insider Jason LaCanfora .
