TCU football coach Sonny Dykes lands blockbuster contract extension

The TCU Horned Frogs got off to a blazing start under head football coach Sonny Dykes. In 2022, his first season at the helm, Dykes led TCU to the College Football National Championship game. As a result, the Horned Frogs finished 13-2 after the 65-7 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Including that first campaign, Dykes’ teams have the most victories (36) and victories over ranked opponents (eight) of all Big 12 teams. TCU remains the only Big 12 team to win a CFP game. Dykes’ previous contract ran through 2028 and paid him more than $7 million, Thamel reported. “The opportunity to pursue a national championship, the College Football Playoff, and Big 12 championships exists right here in Fort Worth,” Dykes said in a release from TCU , “and my family and I, as well as our entire staff, are excited to continue that pursuit as Horned Frogs. ” Because TCU is a private university, the terms of Dykes’ extension are not subject to open records requests.

The 2025 Horned Frogs went 9-4, including a middle-of-the-pack 5-4 finish in the Big 12. TCU defeated the USC Trojans, 30-27, in overtime in the Alamo Bowl to earn a No. 25 ranking in the final AP Top 25.
