Liverpool’s Alisson Becker Could Miss Rest of Season Due to Injury

If Liverpool’s goalkeeper does return to action it would only be in the final weeks of the 2025-26 season.

Now, as the Reds slump towards a finish that could see them end Arne Slot’s second year in charge without a trophy and out of the Champions League places, there’s more bad news.

That’s because starting goalkeeper Alisson Becker is expected to be sidelined for significant stretch, one that could see the Brazilian international out for the remainder of the season. If he does return to action before the current campaign ends, he would almost certainly only be available for the final week or two. “He will not be part of the Paris Saint-Germain games as well,” said head coach Slot when asked about today’s rumblings that Alisson would at the very least not be involved on Saturday against Manchester City in the FA Cup.

“He will be out for a bit longer. Towards the end of the season we maybe expect him fit. ” Alisson, one of the best goalkeepers in the world, does have a history of injury issues and this season it does appear they are getting worse.

The 33-year-old has already missed eleven games through injury—or around a quarter of the season—and this layoff would see him miss at least six to ten more matches. Backup goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will get another chance to impress in his absence. The 25-year-old Georgian is one of the highest rated young shot stoppers in football but has often struggled with ball distribution and sweeper play, two things key at any top club and perhaps especially playing for Liverpool.
