The Boston Red Sox are making some adjustments to the pitching staff, placing a trade acquisition on the injured list before their series against the San Diego Padres . According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive , the AL East club placed right-hander Johan Oviedo on the 15-day IL with a right elbow strain and moved setup man Garrett Whitlock to the paternity list. "To take those spots, Boston called up right-handers Zack Kelly and Tyler Uberstine from Triple-A Worcester," Cotillo wrote Friday.
"For Uberstine, who was added to the 40-man roster over the winter, it’s the first stint in the majors. The Cuba native made nine starts with the Pirates in 2025, posting a 3. 57 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 40 innings. Kelly made 28 appearances out of Boston's bullpen last season and provides the organization with solid pitching depth in both the Majors and Triple-A.
