Three FSU baseball players named to Golden Spikes Award Watchlist
Florida State's Myles Bailey, Trey Beard, and Wes Mendes have been named to the Golden Spikes Award Watchlist.
Florida State Baseball has been on a roll in recent weeks, with the team posting an overall record of 22-6 and a conference record of 7-2. They remain in a strong position to continue on to the postseason. Because of their on-field heroics, several players have been named to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watchlist.
For those unfamiliar, the award is given to "the player who best exhibits exceptional on-field ability, exemplary sportsmanship and character, and an overall positive contribution to the sport. " Prior FSU winners to win are Buster Posey (2008), J. D.
Drew (1997), Mike Loynd (1986), and Mike Fuentes (1981). The three Seminoles players named to the watchlist are first baseman Myles Bailey and starting pitchers Trey Beard and Wes Mendes. Bailey has put up an incredible OPS of 1.
495, while Mendes' eye-watering ERA of 1. 33 has been nothing short of incredible to witness. Beard transferred in from Florida Atlantic and has immediately gotten to work with FSU, posting an ERA of 3.
