Liverpool hit with injury blow to key player ahead of Manchester City showdown
First-choice goalkeeper Alisson faces an extended spell on the sidelines although Alexander Isak could make a cameo this weekend
Alisson faces an extended spell on the sidelines as Liverpool are set to be without their first-choice goalkeeper for the FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City and both legs of the Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain . The Brazil goalkeeper, who missed the defeat to Brighton before the international break, has a muscle problem and Giorgi Mamardashvili will deputise in the next few weeks. But Alexander Isak could make his first appearance of 2026 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday while Mohamed Salah is fit to return after he was not able to play at Brighton.
However, Alisson is absent again with head coach Arne Slot saying: โHe will not be part of the Paris Saint-Germain game. He will be out for a bit longer. Towards the end of the season we expect him to be fit.
โ Salah, who has announced he will leave at the end of the season, has only sat out one game and Slot added: โHe trained with us yesterday [Thursday] and will train today and is available for the game. โ Isak has been out since December after breaking his leg immediately after scoring against Tottenham. He underwent ankle surgery and Slot said it is too soon for him to begin the game against City, but that the ยฃ125m striker could make a cameo.
โIt will definitely be too fast to expect him in the starting line-up,โ he added. โHe has trained with us yesterday for the first time and today will be the second time after exactly 101 days. It will take a bit of time to give him a lot of minutes but we will make sure we do the right thing in terms of building him up.
