Kane to miss Freiburg game but should be available for Real clash
Bayern Munich's Harry Kane sits on the bench before the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 First Leg soccer match between Atalanta Bergamo and FC Bayern Munich at New Balance Arena. Jan Woitas/dpa Bayern Munich star striker Harry Kane will miss the Bundesliga match against Freiburg on Saturday, but coach Vincent Kompany expects to have him back for the Champions League clash against Real Madrid next week. "Harry trained well until Sunday, then he felt something in his ankle while with the national team.
That will have an impact on tomorrow's game - he won't be available," Kompany said in a news conference on Friday. "Nevertheless, I'm positive about Tuesday. It's not great, I'd like him to play against Freiburg, but as things stand today that won't be possible," he added.
Despite missing Kane, Bayern will have the return of midfielder Jamal Musiala and defender Alphonso Davies. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is also back after Bayern had a small crisis in the position, which forced third choice keeper Sven Ulreich to play recently. "We'll see who can start - but the squad is about where it needs to be," Kompany said.
Bayern face Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals and the first leg in Spain is on Tuesday. Kompany, however, has warned his players that the focus is on Freiburg for now. "The players had an international break, I'm sure they've talked about the highlights that are coming up.
But as coaching staff we have to show them the preparation is exactly the same as every time before," he said. "As a coach you have to make it clear that the priority is Freiburg. And that's why we only have to talk about that today.
