Strawser sweeps midseason, overall player of the year honors

WHITE PIGEON — Ty Strawser of White Pigeon is the Sturgis Journal boys basketball Player of the Year. Strawser, a graduating senior for the Chiefs this spring, took home the top spot in our recent end-of-the-year poll. There were 4,555 total votes cast.

Strawser, the sharp-shooting guard for the Chiefs, garnered 3,190 of those votes for a total percentage of 70. 03. Dalton Williams of Colon finished second in voting with 17.

74 percent and Ryder Gorham of Mendon was third with 12. 23 percent. Strawser had a strong season for the Chiefs, which included him surpassing the 1,000-point mark for his career.

He averaged 25. 2 points per game and earned the SouthWest10 league MVP this year by the coaches. He was also named the Midseason Player of the Year for the Journal.
