See who Sturgis-area fans voted as Girls Basketball Player of the Year
This Sturgis senior parlayed career-high, honorable mention honors into Player of the Year accolades
STURGIS — Sturgis' Angela Cary is the winner of the Sturgis Journal Girls Basketball Player of the Year fan vote. Cary, a graduating senior for the Trojans, helped them win their first district title in a decade. The Trojans reached the regional round, where they were upended by DeWitt 39-38, but Cary and the senior class led the orange and black to an impressive 20-win season.
Nearly 21,000 votes were cast. Cary earned 8,181 of those for 39. 48 percent of the total.
Lydia Wells of Bronson finished second with 24. 68 percent. Gracie Schultz totaled 9.
8 percent for third place.
