Another Missed Opportunity: The Kraken Fall 6-3 After Early Lead
Early lead evaporates. Overturned goals and five unanswered Utah scores seal another tough defeat for the Kraken's fading playoff hopes.
Green night, Adam Larsson’s 1,000 game ceremony, a promising start, and a disappointing finish. That just about summarizes a night that started on a high note and ended in another missed opportunity for Seattle. Early goals from Jordan Eberle and Bobby McMann had Seattle off to a 2-0 lead at 13:45 in the first period.
A slashing penalty called on Jacob Melanson left Utah an opening and Logan Cooley stepped through, putting the Mammoth on the board and ending the period 2-1. April 2nd: The Kraken Celebrate McMann's 1st Period Goal photo by Candace Kludt | The Hockey News It looked like the Kraken were going to be able to extend the lead when just over six minutes into the second, Melanson managed to squeak the puck under Utah goaltender Karel Vejmelka’s left pad making the score 3-1. Unfortunately, after review, the goal was called back for goaltender interference and the score remained 2-1 in Seattle’s favor.
After that, it seemed Seattle deflated. Utah put another five unanswered points on the board to end the night 6-2. Goaltender interference was the name of the game: besides Melanson’s overturned goal, Utah had a successful coach’s challenge on a no goal/goaltender interference call, and one other Utah goal was also discounted due to the same.
With the playoffs just around the corner, the Kraken meet up with the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday for another chance at two. The Kraken are going to need to rally and come up with two points from that meeting to keep their playoff hopes alive.
