It was an unseemly end to Doncic's night in a matchup between him and Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander that was billed as a battle between MVP contenders. Doncic had scored at least 40 points in five of his previous seven games, but was held back by the Thunder's suffocating defense. Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning league MVP, led the Thunder with 28 points as Oklahoma City routed the Lakers 139-96 in one of the worst losses in the historic franchise's history.
