Bruins Snap Four-Game Win Streak, Lose to Panthers
The Boston Bruins (43-24-8) fell 2-1 to the Florida Panthers (36-35-3) at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, FL, on Thursday night. Fraser Minten (17) scored in the final minute of the first period, but the Panthers’ jump in the first eight minutes proved too much to overcome. The Bruins snapped their four-game win streak and their seven-game road point streak.
It is their first regulation road loss since March 5 in Nashville. Jeremy Swayman made 22 saves, including the final 19, but suffered his 16th loss of the season. He is now 3-4-1 against the Panthers in his career.
The Panthers’ quick start proved costly for the Bruins. Henri Jokiharju had a tough shift just four minutes into the game. After he won the puck, he turned it over and screened Jeremy Swayman.
Newtown, CT native Mackie Samoskevich opened the scoring, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead at the 4:20 mark. AJ Greer fired a shot that Fraser Minten blocked. The puck hit the 21-year-old and landed on Sam Bennett ’s tape.
He fired to make it 2-0 Panthers at 7:39 . In the final minute of the first period, Marat Khusnutdinov steered a close shot off Sergei Bobrovsky ’s pad, which created a rebound that Fraser Minten buried into the open net . The Bruins trailed 2-1 after the first period due to the Panthers’ quick start.
