Matt Basgall signs ATO contract with San Diego Gulls

Matt Basgall has his first professional contract after his departure from Michigan State.

Michigan State hockey captain and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Matt Basgall have found a professional franchise to call home, amid his time with the Spartans coming to an end. Basgall will be headed to the San Diego Gulls, the AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks. He will be heading to San Diego on an ATO contract.

An ATO amateur contract is a short-term agreement allowing amateur players to play for a professional team without losing their amateur status. Basgall will look to get himself a three-year entry level contract with his performance. Michigan State captain Matt Basgall finds a pro home, signing with the AHL’s San Diego Gulls on an ATO for the remainder of the season.
