Why Daniel Schneemann Continues to Earn More Playing Time With the Guardians

Some players stay at one position throughout their entire career. Others transition to a new spot in the diamond than the one they were initially drafted or signed for. Then, there are some players, like Daniel Schneemann, who move all over the diamond throughout the season and might even play multiple positions in a single game.

Seven games into the Cleveland Guardians ' regular season, Schneemann has already made five starts at three different positions on the field: second base, third base, and center field. This versatility is exactly why Schneemann keeps finding himself on the field with more and more playing time, and it's paying off for the Guardians in the batter's box, too. The seasons are too young to look at Schneemann’s overall stats, but he has made quite an impact in Cleveland’s 4-3 start to the year, especially in its series win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In the first game of the series, Schneemann hit a two-run RBI double off Justin Wrobleski to extend Cleveland’s lead to 4-0 in a game the Guardians eventually went on to win. He ripped a ball into center field that probably would have been a single for most players, but Schneemann hustled out of the box for a double. He eventually came around to score after a stolen base and an error for the game’s first run. “Daniel Schneemann’s a baseball player,” said Stephen Vogt on Wednesday.
