Steelers dodge an expensive bullet with quarterback Kirk Cousins

Yahoo Sports

Kirk Cousins was a popular name as an option for the Steelers to sign at quarterback this offseason.

With just three weeks to the 2026 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers don't know who their starting quarterback will be this season. Most assume somewhere between now and the start of the draft, Aaron Rodgers is going to show up and sign for a massive one-year contract to try and save the day. We've gone on the record that paying Rodgers $30 million for one season is extravagant.

However, after Thursday's news that the Las Vegas Raiders were signing veteran Kirk Cousins to a five-year, $172 million contract, we take back what we said about Rodgers wanting too much money. Cousins was a name being tossed around as a great option for the Steelers should Rodgers choose to retire. But even with only $20 million guaranteed for this season and the rest of that massive deal up in the air, we are glad this isn't a contract the Steelers are dealing with at this juncture.

We have no idea how this signing could impact the draft with the Raiders holding the No. 1 overall pick. This article originally appeared on Steelers Wire: Steelers dodge an expensive bullet with quarterback Kirk Cousins
