Brian Gutekunst, Matt LaFleur will be Packers’ ‘football voice’ with NFL office
Packers CEO Ed Policy helped place Brian Gutekunst and Matt LaFleur on NFL committees.
PHOENIX – When Ed Policy assumed his position as the Green Bay Packers president and CEO, he reshuffled the organization’s influence with the NFL. For years, former team president and CEO Mark Murphy served on the NFL’s competition committee, giving the Packers a presence on the game at a league level. Murphy, a former All-Pro safety with Washington, brought a football background to the job.
Policy never played in the league, assuming his position because of his experience on the business side of professional sports. To better utilize his expertise, Policy serves on the league’s audit, Hall of Fame, and fan engagement and major event committees. He was part of the committee that rewarded Super Bowl LXIII to Las Vegas in February 2029.
With Policy transitioning to more business matters of the NFL, he’s relying on general manager Brian Gutekunst and coach Matt LaFleur to be the team’s “football voice” at the league level. Gutekunst will be on the GM advisory committee while LaFleur will serve on the head coaches subcommittee, marking the first time the Packers have been represented on those boards. “Those are two very critical committees that teams rely on to get input from the teams,” Policy said.
“So they will focus on representing the Packers and our football voice. ” Policy discussed the transition with the league office when he decided to change committees upon taking his new job. He said Gutekunst and LaFleur were informed after broaching the topic with the NFL, but both agreed to step into their new roles.
