The Boilermakers are getting another great player exiting the Hoosier Heritage Conference. One of his high school rivals knows that much.

INDIANAPOLIS โ€” Hancock County natives could have a big say in who holds the national championship trophy at the end of this week's Final Four at Lucas Oil Stadium. Former Greenfield-Central star and UConn freshman Braylon Mullins is as famous as any player in the field after his last-second 35-foot shot to beat Duke in the Elite Eight. While Illinois' Jake Davis played at Cathedral , his hometown is McCordsville, a little east of the Marion County line.

Mullins, though, was quick to point out the county has kept producing upper-tier talent since he and Davis left home. "I know Luke Ertel 's going to be able to do that as well at Purdue ," Mullins said Thursday. "We represent the county and the (Hoosier Heritage) Conference well.

" Ertel is a top contender to succeed Mullins as IndyStar Mr. Basketball. He led Mt.

Vernon to a Class 4A state championship Saturday while the Boilermakers were between games at the West Region in San Jose. Mullins' final high school game was against Ertel and the Marauders, and it will go down in Hancock County lore for the performances on both sides. Mullins scored 38 points for Greenfield, which led by as many as 14.
