Former Clemson guard Asa Thomas is back in the transfer portal
Former Clemson guard Asa Thomas had a great season with Furman and plans to capitalize by re-entering the transfer.
Movement across college basketball is beginning to pick up with the transfer portal window approaching, and a former Clemson guard is expected to be part of that wave. Asa Thomas is reportedly planning to enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens on Tuesday, April 7, according to The Field of 68. It would mark the second time he’s entered the portal after starting his career with the Clemson Tigers.
Thomas’ time at Clemson was largely shaped by injuries, which prevented him from gaining much traction. He missed the entire 2023-24 season following shoulder surgery and then struggled to find consistent minutes the next year, appearing in just 12 games. Clemson’s season ended with a first-round NCAA Tournament loss to McNeese, and Thomas opted to move on shortly after.
He transferred to the Furman Paladins for the 2025-26 season and quickly carved out a much bigger role. The 6-foot-7 guard played in 28 games with 21 starts, averaging 11. 9 points in over 27 minutes per game.
He shot 40. 7 percent from the field and 38. 2 percent from three-point range, while also contributing 3.
