UConn teammates seeing Braylon Mullins grow beyond game-winning shot, taking 'that leadership role'
The Greenfield-Central star won 2025 Mr. Basketball, and now has a March moment that will long be remembered. His teammates see more out of him, even.
INDIANAPOLIS — Braylon Mullins finished another interview with a national outlet, walked into UConn basketball’s locker room at Lucas Oil Stadium and encountered a media horde. About a dozen media members had staked out Mullins’ locker. When the Greenfield-Central alum took his seat, they quickly enveloped him, the lights of television cameras shining on his face.
Such is the life of a newly minted March Madness legend. Mullins’ 35-foot shot at the end of frantic series of events gave the Huskies an improbable 73-72 victory over Duke in the East Region final. The Greenfield-Central grad not only earned a clip in every NCAA Tournament buzzer-beater highlight reel for eternity , he lifted his teammates into the Final Four.
They’ve enjoyed watching the freshman absorb his newfound fame. Only 3 days, 18 hours and 8 minutes had passed between when Mullins’ shot snapped through the hoop in Washington D. C.
and when UConn guard Silas Demary Jr. was asked about his teammate. That was apparently plenty of time for the junior to notice a tangible change in Mullins’ personality and at practice.
