U16w take sensational win in Costa Daurada Cup 37-0 overall goal difference While the spring sun shone brightly over Spain's Costa Daurada, our girls shone just as much on the pitch. Their record leading up to the final of this U17 girls' tournament was a real statement: 37 goals were scored by head coach Lisa Zmek's team – and none conceded! Revenge for last year!
After a perfect group stage with four wins out of four, our girls left no doubt in the knockout rounds as to who would be taking home the trophy. In the semi-final, we settled our score with Athletic Club Bilbao. Our girls had been defeated by the Basque team in last year's final, but this time we prevailed 1-0.
In the final, we faced FC Girona, and our U16 girls remained flawless until the end, ultimately securing the tournament crown with a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Lena Hafner . Anika Helmer also shone in the top scorer standings with seven tournament goals , just one shy of first place. Maya Lampl and Selina Loipold each contributed six goals.
Throughout the entire tournament, we played exceptionally well as a team, both in attack and defence – a fact reflected in our impressive 37-0 goal difference. We deservedly won both the semi-final and the final with our style of play and by implementing our principles. I am incredibly proud of every single player!
