Aimee Litka won a state championship as a player at Saint Joseph in 2005 and a sectional coaching New Prairie in 2024.

Wind chimes rang in the background throughout Aimee Litka's 18-minute phone call April 2. There was steady 16 mile per hour winds with gusts up to 35 miles per hour, signifying a rainstorm that is to come for the South Bend area later Thursday evening. For Litka, however, that strong breeze might as well have been the winds of change, confirming her resignation as the New Prairie girls basketball head coach after six seasons leading the Cougars.

In 2024, Litka was at the helm for the program's first IHSAA sectional championship since 2000 . One season later, New Prairie went 3-20 before finishing at 4-19 in Litka's final campaign. Her combined record as the Cougars' head coach was 58-78.

She wasn't ready to step away two years ago, and she wanted to try and help build the Cougars back up after losing eight seniors on the sectional title squad. Now, with children who will be in the eighth and fifth grade next academic year, Litka said it's time for her to begin a "new chapter" of a life that has been all about basketball since she can remember.

"Time is short, and in order to help [my children] be successful in what they want to do, it was important that I prioritize that at this time," Litka said. "I feel like the program is left in a good spot. " She will, however, maintain her role at New Prairie Middle School as a Life Skills and PCC teacher.
