Legendary golfer Phil Mickelson made a major announcement on Thursday afternoon about his status for the upcoming Masters Tournament . Mickelson made the unexpected decision to withdraw from next week’s major, the first of four on the 2026 PGA Tour calendar. The 55-year-old Mickelson cited a family matter as the reason for his withdrawal.
“Unfortunately, I will not play in the Masters Tournament next week and will be out for an extended period of time as my family continues to navigate a personal health matter ,” Mickelson wrote in a statement.
