Chicago Bears set target date goal for new stadium opening

The Chicago Bears have set a target open date for their new stadium that is hopefully finalizing a site in the coming months.

The Chicago Bears ' search for a new stadium site has been a long, arduous six-year process that appears to finally be nearing a conclusion in the coming months. The Bears are still deciding between building a domed stadium in the 326-acre property they own in Arlington Heights or a 340-acre property in Hammond, Indiana, near Wolf Lake. It's a process that's been slow-moving and at times frustrating.

But it sounds like they could have a decision of where they're building their new stadium relatively soon. Bears president and CEO Kevin Warren said the organization is aiming to wrap the business side of things up this summer and is targeting a 2030 opening for the new stadium. โ€œIf we can get this wrapped up by late spring, early summer, then we have to finish the design, because we want to make sure itโ€™s kind of site-specific,โ€ Warren told Shaw Local News .

โ€œThe goal is to do everything we can to be open in 2030. โ€ The Bears appeared set to build a new stadium on their Arlington Heights property, but they hit property tax-related roadblocks in the state of Illinois that has presented a new opportunity in Northwest Indiana, which is jumping at the opportunity for the Bears to set up camp. The hope is that this process will in fact speed up and find finality in the late spring or early summer so that construction can get underway and this Bears stadium issue will finally have some closure.
