The Pittsburgh Steelers received a huge update on their playing surface upgrade at Acrisure Stadium.

The battle many saw coming — the Pittsburgh Steelers versus their own field conditions at Acrisure Stadium — has just received an important update, courtesy of team president Art Rooney II . At the 2026 NFL Annual League Meeting, Rooney revealed that the Steelers are in the process of replacing the grass field at Acrisure, switching to Tahoma 31 Bermudagrass from the Kentucky bluegrass previously in use. "It's been used in some other stadiums around the country with success," Rooney said via Penn Live's Nick Farabaugh .

It was reported in February that the Steelers were looking to replace their playing surface, which received an F- grade on the NFLPA report card this offseason. The Steelers' new-and-improved field is a much-desired change, as several players voiced their concerns last season after injury concerns began to run rampant.
