soccer star Weston McKennie, healthy eating didn’t always come naturally. It took playing at a higher level before the Texas native and Juventus midfielder — who is World Cup-bound with Team USA this summer — decided to take his diet seriously. “Starting out, I was a bit younger and didn't really pay attention to what things affect my body — even recovery, even nutrition,” he admits.
“Growing up and playing games at a high level, I realized that nutrition is a huge part of the game. Playing with players like Cristiano Ronaldo and all these big name guys, seeing how they take care of their body … As I've gotten older, I think that's when I realized, like, ‘Hey, you need to take this seriously if you want to have a meaningful career where you can be in the game for a long time, where you can accomplish big things.
