Pittsburgh Pirates to promote Konnor Griffin, baseball's top prospect
April 2 (UPI) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates will promote shortstop Konnor Griffin, baseball's top prospect, to their big league roster, they announced Thursday. Griffin, 19, joined the Pirates as the No. 9 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.
He hit . 336 with 21 home runs, 26 doubles, 95 RBIs and 68 stolen bases over the first 127 minor league appearances.. Griffin went 7 for 16 with three doubles and three stolen bases over his first five appearances this season for the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians.
The 2025 Minor League Baseball Player of the Year is now on track to join the Pirates' lineup for a game against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday in Pittsburgh. The first pitch for the Pirates' 2026 home opener is set for 4:12 p. m.
