Part of the makeover took place Thursday, when the Chiefs signed Kaiir Elam. The deal was reported by NFL Network's Mike Garafolo , and it's a chance for Elam to try and revitalize his career. Elam was originally a first-round pick by the Buffalo Bills , the 23rd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Florida.
He was supposed to be a star on the perimeter for Buffalo, but almost immediately, he was overtaken by late-round pick Christian Benford in the Bills' pecking order. Elam never really could regain a full spot back, and when he played, he didn't grade out favorably in any of the metrics. Before the 2025 season, the Bills sent Elam to the Dallas Cowboys . He played 10 games in Dallas, including seven starts, and made 29 tackles with just a single pass defensed. Elam concluded the 2025 campaign with the Tennessee Titans for four games.
