T.J. Dillashaw reveals shocking pay for UFC title win over Renan Barao

T. J. Dillashaw's UFC title win over Renan Barao changed everything.

Dillashaw was a massive underdog when he challenged dominant bantamweight champion Barao for the title at UFC 173 in May 2014. The Season 14 "Ultimate Fighter" finalist stunned the masses when he dominated Barao for a Round 5 TKO win. But what was more shocking was how much Dillashaw (17-5 MMA, 13-5 UFC) made for that title win.

"My life changed completely after beating Barao," Dillashaw said on "The JAXXON Podcast" "I was on 'The Ultimate Fighter' contract. I was fighting for a world title for $18,000. I got to rip that contract – you're on a 10-fight contract when you get on from 'The Ultimate Fighter,' and you start off at $10-10, after three wins you go to 14-14, after three wins you go to 18-18.

So I was getting $18,000 to show, $18,000 to win against the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, and I just shocked the world. " Dillashaw would go on to become one of the greatest bantamweights of all time with wins over Cody Garbrandt twice, John Lineker, and Cory Sandhagen . He earned both Performance of the Night and Fight of the Night for his title-winning performance against Barao, which gave him an extra $100,000.

Additionally, Dillashaw reportedly received additional monies that were revealed as part of the ongoing antitrust lawsuits against the UFC. This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: T. J.
