Ibrahima Konaté likely to stay at Liverpool next season
Ibrahima Konaté likely to stay at Liverpool next season Ibrahima Konaté (26) is reportedly more likely to stay at Liverpool than to leave the English club at the end of the season, according to The Athletic . Although no agreement has yet been reached regarding the renewal of his contract, which expires on 30th June, the prospect of the Frenchman leaving seems less certain than it did a few months ago. And this for the simple reason that the player, who came through the ranks at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, would like to continue his career on the banks of the Mersey.
But not on just any terms. With his current weekly wage standing at around £150k (€170k), he would like to see this figure rise to bring him closer to the club’s highest-paid players. That said, money is not the only factor for Konaté, who may also decide to wait and see what concrete offers emerge from foreign clubs.
First and foremost is Real Madrid, who expressed an interest in the centre-back last winter. Finally, a failure by the Reds to qualify for the next Champions League campaign could also influence his decision on whether to sign a new contract. A key player in Arne Slot’s side, Konaté has started 39 of his 41 appearances in all competitions this season, finding the net on two occasions.
