Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed discusses Aggies' spring football progress
Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed discussed his progress and the Aggies' spring football season on the SEC Network.
Texas A&M's spring football season is well underway, and based on what we've witnessed during the first six practices, several of the 17 transfer portal additions, combined with three of the four freshman wide receivers from the 2026 signing class, have consistently stood out, while starting quarterback Marcel Reed , who enters his redshirt junior season with even higher expectations after leading the Aggies to their first College Football Playoff appearance last season. Throwing for a career-high 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns, Reed's 12 interceptions, including four during the final two losses against Texas and Miami in the CFP, have received substantial focus on his remaining weaknesses, despite playing like one of the best quarterbacks in the country through the program's historic 11-0 start. Still, these issues need to be ironed out for the Aggies to have any shot at returning to the postseason.
Under new offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins , Texas A&M's offense is expected to be more up-tempo in the passing game, while the run game will now be led by senior back Rueben Owens, who will take over as the starter with Le'Veon Moss off to the NFL. This week, Marcel Reed sat down with the SEC Network panel to discuss his progress this spring, and while he didn't go into detail regarding the need to fix his footwork in the pocket, and forcing the deep ball less to focus on moving the chains, the Tennessee native is confident that his elite wide receiver room, combined with his familiarity with the coaching staff should lead to improvement. Here is everything the Aggie signal had to say during his SEC Network appearance.
