3 reasons the Steelers should not re-sign QB Aaron Rodgers

Bringing back QB Aaron Rodgers might not be the smart signing for the Steelers this offseasons.

All the buzz during the NFL owners meetings for the Pittsburgh Steelers have centered on the continued communication between head coach Mike McCarthy and free-agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Despite all of Rodgers' theatrics, it seems it is only a matter of time until he re-signs with Pittsburgh. But we aren't convinced the Steelers best move is to bring Rodgers back in 2026 and here are three reasons why.

Rodgers reportedly wants a lot of money When Rodgers signed with the Steelers last season, he played for a bargain at $13. 6 million. But if the rumors are true, Rodgers wants a big raise in 2026 in the area of $30 million.

This is crazy money for a 42-year-old quarterback coming off a season where he threw for only 3,322 yards. The Steelers have several 2027 free agents who are eyeing huge paydays including edge Nick Herbig and we would rather see that money go to him. Rodgers wasn't very good last season The fact that Rodgers only threw for 3,322 yards doesn't really punctuate how bad Rodgers season was.

Yes, he had 24 passing touchdowns but he failed to throw for 300 yards even once but failed to throw for 200 yards five times in the regular season. This doesn't even include the 146-yard effort in the Steelers opening-round blowout playoff loss to the Houston Texans. Signing Rodgers continues to delay the rebuild Reports are that McCarthy loves second-year quarterback Will Howard.
