Earlier suggestions to rename the team “Shamrock Rovers Coatbridge” have since been abandoned, though reports indicate there are still intentions to alter the club’s kit to reflect Celtic’s iconic green and white hoops.

While Coatbridge has long been regarded as a stronghold for Celtic supporters, concerns are mounting that such changes could threaten the club’s 144-year history and identity. Greenrock Cronus Capital Partners – the group behind the proposed takeover – said in a statement to Lanarkshire Live : “Greenrock has been a patient and committed investor in Albion Rovers since its initial acquisition of shares. “Since then, it has concluded a number of further acquisitions from existing shareholders, each completed on commercially agreed terms.

It has done so because it believes, profoundly, in the future of this football club – its community, its history, and its capacity for genuine renewal. “We can confirm that our shareholding does not include any shares held by Mr Anton Fagan [the club’s largest single shareholder]. We do not require his shares to achieve our objectives for the Club.
