Latest mock draft has Commanders trading up for elite playmaker

Yahoo Sports

There are several different directions the Commanders could go in the 2026 draft, and one new mock has the team boldly trading up.

It's now April, which means the draft is this month! We're so close to not having to speculate anymore and actually knowing who the newest Washington Commanders will be. Since the conclusion of the 2025 season, we've gone over plenty of different mock drafts.

Most mock drafts have had the Commanders taking a defender at No. 7, but some have also had the team picking an offensive weapon for Jayden Daniels . One thing that hasn't been mocked much is the Commanders trading up, mostly because the team doesn't have much draft capital to begin with.

However, Rob Rang of FOX Sports believes the Commanders could still make a bold move up if they like a player enough. In Rang's latest mock, he has the Commanders trading up to No. 3 and selecting Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love.

Regarding this potential move, Rang offered the following: If the Commanders are really serious about protecting Jayden Daniels , they’ll insulate him with a dynamic runner and won’t risk losing the opportunity to draft him by waiting until they are on the clock at No. 7 overall. With just six draft picks in 2026 (including no second-round selection), Washington would have to be bold, indeed, to make this move, likely having to trade not only this year’s first round pick but next year’s, as well.
