ST. LOUIS — On the same day Masyn Winn got the game-winning hit for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Mets, he was involved in a single-car accident later in the night.
Winn hit a walkoff single in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift St. Louis to a 2-1 victory over the New York Mets, getting a series win at home. After the game, Winn was involved in a single-car crash on Interstate 64 due to wet pavement, according to a statement released by the Cardinals.
The team said Winn was by himself in the vehicle and was helped by local police, along with Cardinals security and medical staff. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was evaluated and found to have no serious injuries. “We are grateful that he is OK, and thank the first responders in our community who helped Masyn tonight,” the team said in its statement.
