USD women fall to Illinois State in WNIT Semifinals
VERMILLION, S. D. (KELO) — The USD women saw their deep run in the WNIT come to a close on Wednesday with a 67-60 semifinal loss to Illinois State.
The Coyotes close the year with a 26-10 overall record. USD started fast on Wednesday night. The Coyotes led 15-10 after the first quarter and pushed the lead to 20-12 early in the second.
Illinois State would use a 7-0 run in the second quarter to cut the lead to one. They outscored USD by seven in the frame to lead 33-31 at halftime. The Redbirds continued to push the lead.
They held USD to just ten points in the third quarter, creating a 50-41 lead. USD went on a late run to cut into the lead and get back within four, but that’s as close as they got. Four scored in double figures for Illinois State, including Doneelah Washington who scored a game high 21.
USD was led by Molly Joyce who had 16 points. Angelina Robles added 14, while Patience Williams had 10. There were 3,002 fans in attendance according to USD’s website.
