The Jayhawks announced that Self โ€œ isnโ€™t going anywhere โ€ on social media right before the Final Four starts in Indianapolis. Since Self isn't retiring and has one of college basketball's most unique deals, what's next for him? Self signed a lifetime contract three years ago that rolls over every five years with some flexibility.

Kansas pays Self $8. 8 million annually, according to USA TODAY Sports , which is currently the highest for college basketball coaches. This doesn't include bonuses and incentives, which can be up to $800k per year.

Bill Self buyout clause If Kansas fires Self without cause, they'd owe him a huge $23. 1 million buyout. But if he's fired โ€œfor cause,โ€ like major NCAA violations, the school wouldn't owe anything.
