Tabea Eitel of Texas sits 2nd place in the heptathlon after Day 1 of Texas Relays

Brazziell/American-Statesman) Tabea Eitel of the Texas Longhorns is in second place in the heptathlon and Iana Ahetz-Etcheber stands ninth Wednesday after the opening day at the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Eitel totaled 3,414 points through four events, while Ahetz-Etcheber posted 3,263 points to keep both Texas athletes in the top 10 heading into the final day of competition.
Eitel ran 14. 03 seconds in the 100 hurdles to score 974 points and place sixth after the first event. Ahetz-Etcheber to finish 10th.
Ahetz-Etcheber made a big move in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 8 inches to record the second-best mark of the day. She added 891 points to climb into second place overall with 1,852 points. Eitel cleared 5-7 to add 810 points and move into third with 1,829 points.
